Nearly one in four IT job openings posted on the Djinni platform over the past six months offered a salary of $5,000 or more. However, these offers are unevenly distributed: in some categories, this salary level is common, while in others it remains the exception.

According to Djinni, excluding C-level executive positions, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and developers working in C++ and Golang have the highest chances of earning $5,000 or more. At the same time, a high salary typically requires significant professional experience, working with complex systems, and responsibility for technical decisions. Here’s a look at which IT fields lead in the number of high-paying job openings and where competition among candidates remains the highest.

Earlier, we talked about the European countries where it is easiest to get a work visa and start a career abroad.

Nearly a quarter of IT job openings offer a salary of $5,000 or more

Djinni analysts examined job postings published on the platform over the past six months. It turned out that in nearly 25% of the listings, the upper limit of the salary range is at least $5,000 per month.

However, this figure does not mean that one in four IT professionals actually earns that amount. These are job postings in which the employer is willing to consider a salary starting at $5,000 for a candidate with the required experience and skill set. The final compensation depends on the specialist’s level, the complexity of the project, the employment arrangement, and the results of the interview.

The highest-paying offers are concentrated among managers and technical specialists with narrow specializations. Employers particularly value experience working with data, high-load systems, cloud infrastructure, and programming languages for which it is more difficult to find qualified candidates on the market.

In our previous article, we discussed which EU countries are leading in remote work in 2026.

Which IT professions have the most job openings with salaries starting at $5,000?

The highest proportion of job offers with salaries starting at $5,000 is found among technical leads. Nearly 70% of Tech Lead positions offer this salary level. At the same time, employers are primarily looking for candidates who have at least six years of professional experience and can not only work with code but also be responsible for architecture, technical solutions, and team performance.

A high proportion of high-paying job openings is also characteristic of non-technical C-level executives. This category includes CEOs, COOs, CMOs, CFOs, and other top managers. On average, the experience requirement here starts at around four years, although for a specific position, companies may expect significantly longer managerial experience.

Excluding executive positions, the roles most likely to offer a salary of $5,000 or more are:

- Data Engineer – builds and maintains infrastructure for collecting, storing, and processing large datasets

- Data Scientist – analyzes data, develops predictive models, and applies machine learning methods

- C++ Developer – works with high-performance systems, game engines, embedded solutions, and complex software

- Golang Developer – develops server-side and cloud systems, microservices, and products designed to handle heavy workloads

The high salary ranges in these fields are driven not only by demand but also by the limited number of experienced candidates. Companies need specialists capable of independently designing complex solutions, optimizing system performance, and taking responsibility for mission-critical product components.

We tell you where it is best to build a life in the long term — here.

In which IT fields are salaries starting at $5,000 offered the least frequently?

Djinni recorded the lowest proportion of high-paying job openings in the Support and QA categories. Only 2–3% of job postings in these fields offer a salary range starting at $5,000.

In Support, most job openings involve advising users, handling support requests, and resolving common technical issues. Salaries rise significantly for managerial positions or roles that require in-depth product knowledge, complex infrastructure management, and working with corporate clients.

Specialization is also important in testing. Manual QA typically offers lower salaries, while QA Automation, Performance Engineer, Security Tester, or QA Lead roles can command higher compensation. However, even for experienced professionals, job openings starting at $5,000 in this category are much rarer than in Data, DevOps, or development in C++ and Golang.

Therefore, simply working in IT does not guarantee a high salary. The decisive factors remain the technical complexity of the work, the shortage of relevant skills in the market, and the specialist’s level of responsibility.

Where is competition for IT jobs the fiercest?

A high number of job openings doesn’t always mean it will be easy to find a job. According to Djinni, in June 2026, the fiercest competition was among JavaScript developers: each job opening received an average of 74 applications. In May, the figure was even higher—84 applications.

The QA category came in second. On average, each tester position received 53 applications, compared to 54 in May. The situation remains particularly challenging for entry-level professionals and Manual QA specialists, as the number of candidates in this segment significantly exceeds the number of available positions.

Lower competition is typical in fields where employers require specialized technical knowledge and substantial practical experience. That is why Data Engineering, Data Science, DevOps, C++, and Golang may be more advantageous in terms of the ratio of candidates to salary offers. However, it’s difficult to transition into these specializations after just a short course: positions starting at $5,000 are primarily intended for Senior, Lead, or managerial roles.
